Getting to “I Love Me”

Self-care doesn’t just meet the needs of our emotional and physical health. It says to oneself, “I matter,” “I deserve to be healthy,” “I’m worth caring for.” It’s a tool to help create love for the self; something that can be done long before the ability to say “I love me.” There’s power in being able to put care into action; it results in confidence and pride, which go on to nurture love for the self.
Many of us grew up in homes where we had to function by attending to the needs of others ahead of our own. We weren’t able to carve out emotional space to prioritize ourselves. Practicing self-care does just that. It reverses the script we had to abide by for so long just to function. It allows us to claim that space and focus that energy into making choices that exhibit self-love. You deserve to put the energy, time, and focus you have given to others into caring for yourself, and practicing self-care will ultimately make that your truth.
