Expectations Aren’t Reality

We set all of these life expectations for ourselves, but then life happens. We live day to day making the best decisions possible with the information we have at the time. Only in time are we able to see the result. The trouble is not the outcome itself, but our response to it. If we see the outcome as a failure, we hold onto regret, holding ourselves captive to the past and to the expectations we’d naively set. We must allow ourselves to process and grieve the loss of what we thought should’ve been, so we are able to arrive at a place of acceptance for what is. In time, we gain perspective and wisdom, and will be able to appreciate the twists and turns that life took, and the unexpected picture our life became while we were living it.
